Project Grudge

Project Summary

Project Grudge was the second official United States Air Force investigation into unidentified flying object reports. Established in 1949 as a continuation of Project Sign, it examined reports collected from military personnel and civilians to determine whether they represented security threats, conventional explanations, or unexplained phenomena.

Overview

Following Project Sign, the United States Air Force continued investigating UFO reports through Project Grudge. The program operated under Air Force intelligence structures and adopted a more skeptical approach toward reported sightings. Investigators attempted to identify conventional explanations including aircraft, astronomical objects, weather phenomena, and misidentifications. Project Grudge concluded that UFO reports did not represent evidence of extraterrestrial vehicles or a direct national security threat. The program was later replaced by Project Blue Book in 1952.
