Maria dos Santos Carreira, widely known as Maria da Capelinha, was an early supporter of the Fátima apparitions and regularly attended Cova da Iria. She was present during the October 13, 1917 event and later gave testimony describing the reported solar phenomenon. She subsequently became the first caretaker of the Fátima chapel and image.
